A brief introduction of myself and my inspiration for running for Stanton City CouncilBy Alex LamCandidate for Council Member; City of Stanton | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I want to briefly introduce myself and share with you the inspiration for my running for city council, which is to give back to the community.Raised in OC, a graduate of the School of Engineered Leadership and Senate Chair, I earned my Bachelors in Psychology from the University of California + San Diego. As a successful small business owner, I know that taxes hurt business. As Councilman, I'll never vote for a tax increase. Hard working families are already struggling to afford grocery and gas prices while home values go down and mortgage payments go up. That is why I'll fight any attempt to raise taxes or undermine Prop 13's property tax protection for seniors. We must do everything we can to streamline and modernize government to help stretch every tax dollar. As a former Vice-President of a computer manufacturer, I know how to spot technology that works. I'll bring that same commitment to utilize 21st century technology, rather than the bureaucracy of the 20th century. As a first-generation immigrant who believes in family values, I'm proud to be a nation "under God" with robust religious diversity. I know the most important role of government is keeping its citizens safe. That's why I'll use new tools passed statewide to crack down on gangs and graffiti. The foundations of my platform are "Change" and "Opportunity." Great opportunities abound in Stanton, but only with a change in leadership to reflect a renewed and vibrant civic passion, can Stanton successfully seize upon these opportunities. With that said, giving back to the community is my way of saying thanks to God and all those who have helped me and my family get us to where we are today. I am very thankful to the United States for opening their borders to us, and more specifically to those American soldiers who fought in the Vietnam War for our freedom. Thus, to all the soldiers and veterans who are reading this, I humbly thank you. Having traveled outside the country on many occasions, we are and will always be the best country in the world I am proud to be an American and to have been given a chance to come to this great nation. I am also thankful to the churches for adopting my family during the holidays when we first arrived to this altruistic nation and providing us with foods and gifts so that we can celebrate Christmas. It was not so much the gifts or food, but their hopes for us to be able to celebrate Christmas and be part of a society. It's a program that my family and I have been participating in the last years to give back. On a personal level, I am thankful to my teachers for introducing God into my life and for empowering me to better my life. But most importantly, I am thankful to God for blessing me with the strength, drive, perseverance, moral ethics and all the great people I have met in my life. |
