Candidate for
Council Member; City of San Juan Capistrano

Sergio Farias, 25, is running for City Council in San Juan Capistrano, Orange County, Calif. He is a candidate of the Party for Socialism and Liberation.

Born and raised in San Juan Capistrano, Sergio works as a gardener and is a community college student. He also leads SJC Against Racism, a multinational organization rooted in the city's Latino neighborhoods. The organization brought hundreds of people to the streets of San Juan Capistrano to oppose the racist gang injunction that targets Latino youth. SJC Against Racism is working actively to get the injunction overturned.

As the son of immigrants from Mexico, Sergio is a passionate advocate for immigrant rights. He has helped mobilize tens of thousands of people in mass demonstrations for equality in 2006 and 2007. He believes in full rights for all people.

Sergio stands against phony "sobriety" checkpoints, racial profiling, local police and Immigration and Customs Enforcement collaboration, police brutality and all forms of government repression. Struggling against racism and oppression is a key component of his life and work.

As an Orange County volunteer organizer with the ANSWER Coalition (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism), he struggles against the criminal war on Iraq and for social justice in the United States.
