Fighting racism must be the top priorityBy Sergio FariasCandidate for Council Member; City of San Juan Capistrano | |

San Juan Capistrano deserves a leader who will fight in the interests of its working-class.I have lived in San Juan Capistrano my whole life. I am a gardener, a member of the Party for Socialism and Liberation, and the leader of SJC Against Racism, an organization rooted in our city's Latino neighborhoods. We brought hundreds of people to the streets to oppose the racist gang injunction. As a worker, I know the deteriorating living conditions millions face. My campaign calls for a $15/hour minimum wage, strengthening union rights, the creation of jobs and afterschool programs, free healthcare, free education through college, and a moratorium on foreclosures, evictions and rent hikes. I believe the Iraq war must end now. The trillions of dollars being wasted should meet people's needs in the U.S. As the son of Mexican immigrants, I know the oppression immigrants face. I support full rights for all, and an end to raids, fake "sobriety" checkpoints, and deportations. My campaign opposes mass imprisonment and police brutality; and supports women's reproductive rights, same-sex marriage, and full equality regardless of nationality, religion, gender or sexual orientation. The choice for the future is clear: Either exploitation for the profits of the rich, or a sustainable economy based on meeting people's needs--socialism. |
