City-Resident Communication

By Ronald Beldner

Candidate for Council Member; City of Laguna Woods

This information is provided by the candidate
We must change the ways the City Council communicates with residents. Our current written communications to residents is meger. The Council assumes the residents all read the local papers for City news or own a computer to download data--wrong! The current City Council Members are failing to listen to the residents.
First-The Cities Laguna Woods Wood Works newsletter must be expanded to provide more data to our residents on City issues, free services provided by the City, County and State Government, free government sponsored home improvements, crime issues targeting seniors, etc. I will not only seek its expansion, but become a monthly mailer.

Second--The City of Laguna Woods has a phone system that can automatically dial and provide a message to residents about city issues, air pollution or wild animal alerts. If this system had alerted our residents about the planning meetings, would San Sebastian have been built?

Third--City Hall must extend its hours. We can no longer be a 8 AM to 5 PM city. 20% of our residents work and cannot get to City Hall during 8 to 5. I will propose keeping City hall open a minimum one night per week and at least 4 hours every other Saturday to start. We must serve our residents and business community.

Fourth--I intend to be a "full time" Council Member and I will meet with individuals; groups in your home, clubs, local business and hold open Community meetings. My phone number will be published.
