Questions & Answers

1. What are your Qualifications for Office? (200 word limit)

I am a mother to three sons, a lifelong Missourian, a trained economist, a former State Senator, and the current State Treasurer. I am a staunch advocate for taxpayers against special interests, and for the people instead of politicians.

As State Treasurer, I have invested hundreds of millions of dollars back into our state's economy, led one of the nation's best 529 college savings plans, returned record amounts of unclaimed property back to Missourians, and was the first Treasurer in the nation to pull a state's investments out of companies that support terrorist regimes. All of this was accomplished while cutting the office's operational budget significantly from the amount spent by my predecessor.

With uncertainty in the economy and rising food and fuel prices, I believe my background and experience makes me the most qualified candidate for governor. Among other things, I have already proposed real tax relief for Missouri families. I am best suited to constrain Washington-style out of control spending and fiscal mismanagement.

In sum, I will use my Missouri experience to make our state a better place to live, work, and raise a family.

2. What plans do you have to address your top three priorities? (100 word limit)

I have already proposed $200 million in tax relief for Missouri families, including increased exemptions, a panel of citizens to review the tax code, property tax relief, and a prohibition on judicially imposed tax hikes.

I will make ample use of the line item veto, propose budgets that live within our means, and aggressively root out waste. I will constantly look for ways to streamline government and make it more efficient and smaller.

I will defend life at all stages as outlined in my "life is precious" initiative, protect second amendment rights, private property rights, freedom of religion, and marriage.
