It may sound old-fashioned, but I love America, and I'm not ashamed to tell you why. In 1974, I legally immigrated to the United States with my parents. One of the proudest moments in my life was becoming an American Citizen in 1979.

I have always believed in the American Dream. As a young man, I mopped floors and understood the value of honest, hard work and the importance of a good education. I worked my way through Drexel University, earning an Engineering degree, and in 1980, settled down in Southern California gaining employment in the aerospace industry. It was our nation's peak defense build-up period, and I was proud to know that I was helping my country stop the communist threat.

I soon met and married my wonderful wife, Gin. We bought our first home together, and in the years to come, had two amazing children, both of whom attend pubic school. It was our "California Dream" to one day own a business. We started a local restaurant working day and night to make it succeed. In time, we came to own a number of local restaurants creating jobs for hundreds of people.

As my small business grew, I was committed to giving back to the community that had given me so much opportunity. After all, America isn't just about getting ahead; it's about participating in the community and local politics. I became active in the Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCA and many other community service organizations. In 2004, I was elected to the Anaheim City Council and consider public service a meaningful way of "saying thank you and giving back." As an elected representative, protecting and keeping our neighborhoods and schools safe has always been one of my top priorities.

Prior to my election, I served as Chairman of the Anaheim Budget Committee. I also currently serve as: Orange County Republican Party, Deputy Chairman, City of Anaheim and Republican Convention Delegate; City of Anaheim Audit Committee Member; Orange County Sanitation District Director; Boys and Girls Clubs of Anaheim Board Member; and Anaheim Family YMCA Advisory Board Member.

That's my background. I came to our country as a child full of dreams. I worked hard and fulfilled many of those dreams. I am a proud American and a proud conservative Republican. I believe that our California government needs strong, conservative, common sense leadership. I want to provide that leadership and continue to give back to those who have given me so much by serving in the State Senate.
