FIGHTING ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION: I've voted time and again for some of the toughest local laws that help the federal government detain and deport illegal immigrants right here in Orange County. I strongly believe that our local, state and federal governments must work together to stop illegal immigration and protect our border. Illegal immigration costs California taxpayers billions of dollars on a yearly basis.

My parents and I came to this country legally because we wanted to work hard and earn the American Dream. Unchecked illegal immigration is unfair to those who come here legally and unfair to the taxpayers who pay for their welfare. As a person who over thirty-four years ago proudly went through the legal process to immigrate to this country, I am furious that our government has done nothing to stop illegal immigration.

It is an honor to have the endorsement of Ret. State Senator Dick Mountjoy + known as the "Father of Prop. 187" because of his leading role in fighting illegal immigration.

And, as your State Senator, you have my word that I will vote to secure our border to stop the flow of illegal aliens, eliminate government giveaways and handouts to illegal immigrants, require identification for voting, demand students speak, write, and read English before graduating, and make sure they never get driver's licenses. I will also take action to support federal law reforms.

PROTECTING PROPERTY RIGHTS: Prior to the U.S. Supreme Court's Kelo decision, the Anaheim City Council had made it a policy that eminent domain would not be used to seize land when the sole public purpose was transferring it to another private entity in the hopes of greater tax revenue. To ensure that this sound policy decision could not be reversed by a future city council on a simple majority vote, a charter amendment [Measure 'P'] was placed on the November 2006 ballot to forever prohibit Kelo-type eminent domain abuse in the City of Anaheim.

People work an entire lifetime to procure the American Dream of owning a home or business. I will continue to be a leading advocate for the protection of private property rights.

PROTECTING THE TAXPAYERS: I firmly oppose tax increases. The California tax rates are among the highest in the nation and high taxes are stealing the American Dream from our families as they are forced to work harder every year. Because of unfair taxes and government waste, hard work doesn't mean more time with the family, more time for vacations or a better house. Instead, hard work just means more taxes.

Taxpayer money must be wisely spent. As a State Senator, I will continue to fight for sound and conservative fiscal responsibility, accountability to the taxpayers, and curbing wasteful government spending.

EDUCATION: California spends billions of our precious tax dollars on education every year. It's time we started getting what we are paying for. First, we must make sure our schools are safe again. Children should be worrying about the next math exam, not gangs and drugs in their hallways.

Second, I'll vote to make sure that decision making is not left solely to bureaucratic policymakers. Instead, parents should have a real voice on how the system can be reformed to increase performance. And, that means holding everyone accountable: administrators, teachers, students, and parents.

And, third, I support making sure that every child reads, writes, and speaks English before they graduate and that children get a real "American" education that teaches them the positive, uplifting story of our nation's history and our commitment to freedom. Saying the Pledge of Allegiance and learning about the heroism and bravery of our national forefathers should be a priority.

TRANSPORTATION: Like you, I'm sick of the gridlock on our freeways and roads. Every agonizing hour we spend stuck in traffic is another hour we can't be home helping the kids with homework, cooking dinner, or spending free time as we see fit.

As your representative, I'll demand that every dollar collected from taxes on gasoline or auto sales go directly back into construction of more freeway lanes, more roads, and more public transportation.

DEMANDING ETHICS AND REFORM: I will vote to clean-up our government and our party. No more 'back room' deals for Special Interests that corrupt the American Dream. I'll vote to end the practice of 'shaking down' contributions during the final days of the budget. And, I'll vote to end the outrageous salaries and perks like free cars and tax-free pay that state politicians give themselves.

I support term-limits and a part-time legislature. It's time we got rid of career politicians and put normal hard-working citizens back in charge. After all, good government should be the rule, not the exception.

ENCOURAGING BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT: As a businessman, I understand the difficulties of running a business. 'Mom and Pop' businesses need to be promoted and expanded for our communities and families to continue prospering and thriving in both good and bad economic times. They are the driving force for our economy encompassing the dreams of individuals to create lives for their families, jobs for their neighbors, and security for the community.

I will continue to support streamlined processes that encourage new business growth in traditional and emerging industries that will increase opportunities for our citizens to achieve the American Dream.
