- Preliminary Report On Sonoma County Water Agency Legislation
-
It recently came to the attention of the Issues and Legislation Committee that there is some interest among citizens and local state legislators regarding state legislation to change the membership of the governing board of the Sonoma County Water Agency (SCWA) from ex officio, (i.e., the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors) to an independent body elected directly by the people. The I&L Committee has undertaken a project to investigate the feasibility of such legislation.
- An International Criminal Tribunal on the United States of America
-
Impeachment is a long process, which, if successful, would do no more than remove people from office, something that will occur automatically on 20 January 2009. The United Nations Security Council can establish an ad hoc international criminal tribunal, as it did to punish international crimes committed in the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda. The prospect of such a resolution being brought to the UN Security Council would apply pressure to the American system to clean its own house.
- A Vigorous Space Program Promotes Progressive Values
-
A typical reason that progressive politicians give for not supporting NASA's human space exploration program is, "we have so many issues here in our own country, and on Earth, to deal with as priorities." I first heard that argument before Neil Armstrong set foot on the Moon, and it is as fallacious today as it was then.
