Addition to the Water Service Area

By Margaret Gerner

Candidate for Board Member; Occidental Community Services District

This information is provided by the candidate
I urge caution in expanding Occidental's water service area.
Plans are underway to bring Occidental water (pumped from a well beside the Russian River) to the CYO Camp south of town - 4 million gallons a year or the equivalency of 100 households. Since no camp was held this year I want the Board to make certain that this water hookup is not the first step in the sale of the property for a residential development.

The Board has granted Harmony Village 30 hookups; the Board is also open to the feasibility of piping water out Graton Road to the CDF Fire Station.

Households along the way to CYO or the CDF Fire Station would also be allowed to hook up to the system.

I am concerned that decisions regarding the expansion of the present water system be made carefully and conservatively. The wrong decisions now could lead to over-development, the loss of habitat, and a change in the quality of life for all of us here in this beautiful area.
