Political Philosophy for Dean J. Chu
Candidate for |

|
As your Mayor, Vice Mayor, and councilmember for the past four years, I had pledged to work hard to build consensus on issues and, in the process, ensure that your voice is heard. My goal for the next four years is "Thoughtful, Effective Leadership." My vision of Sunnyvale is "Community and Commerce," residents and business working together to make Sunnyvale the best city to live, work, and shop has remained in place. I continue to be committed to: 1) Revitalize Downtown - We are finally on our way with a local developer who wants to build a successful project working with the community and city council. We need to keep careful watch on the project to keep it on schedule. We need to support other local businesses as they struggle during the construction process. 2) Police and Fire Services - Police and fire services must continue to be supported to maintain our nationally recognized low crime rate. We have had an overall declining crime rate since I took office and continue to have the lowest crime rate of any medium size city in Northern California. 3) Open Government - We need to continue to seek ways improve communication between residents, business and the city. We have taken steps to make it easier to interact with the city staff and council and we must continue to look for additional ways keep everyone informed of events in the city, 4) Neighborhoods - I have pushed for better communications with the neighborhoods from promoting National Night Out in August and to creating the quarterly Neighborhood Association meeting where different areas of the city get together to share best practices and encourage neighborhoods to form associations. 5) Environment - We need to promote a healthy environment including steps to preserve open space and reduce pollution such as greenhouse gases. 7) Education - I support high quality education. My wife and I have are involved with my children's elementary shcool and I am on the Fremont Union High School Education Foundation. I have sponsored a scholarship program through a local service club for a deserving Sunnyvale high school senior for a number of years. Remember my vision of "Community and Commerce," residents and business working together to make Sunnyvale the best city to live, work, and shop through "Thoughtful, Effective Leadership." I ask for your vote on November 6, 2007. |
