Honesty and IraqBy Francine P BusbyCandidate for United States Representative; District 50 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
An opponent of the war since it began, Francine believes it is the responsibility of the President and Congress to develop a clear exit strategy. She supports restoring basic security and subsequently removing our troops. She believes that the Iraq War is a distraction from the very serious threat of terrorism and that listening to military experts, not Washington politicians is the best way to fight the War on Terror.HONESTY ABOUT AN EXIT STRATEGY Francine believes that the it is the responsibility of the President and Congress to immediately develop an exit strategy for Iraq that includes rebuilding of basic infrastructure and restoration of security followed by a swift removal of troops. While she opposed the War, Francine does not believe that an immediate withdrawal serves the security interests of the US or Iraq. She supports the humanitarian work of non-profits and non-governmental organizations as an important part of reconstruction. REFOCUSING ON TERRORISM Terrorism is a very serious threat to the country and Francine believes that the Iraq War was a distraction from the goal of eliminating terrorism. Military experts told Washington politicians that turning our attention to Iraq would allow Al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations to rebuild and Francine believes that we should have listened to their advice. In Congress, Francine will work with military leaders to make sure public policy reflects military reality. HONOR OUR MILITARY AND VETERANS The men and women who are serving in Iraq are the most brave, patriotic and selfless citizens in America. Francine will fight to ensure that the government fulfills its promise to our men and women in uniform by working to expand TRICARE coverage to the Guard and Reserve, increasing assistance to families who have a member serving and making sure that they have the most modern and safe weaponry available while in the field. Francine believes that honoring our promise to veterans means providing concurrent receipt of disability and pension benefits, fully funding the Veterans Administration, and resisting attempts to increase fees for health care services. Those who risk their lives for this country should always be given the highest respect |
