A Healthy Environment

By Francine P Busby

Candidate for United States Representative; District 50

This information is provided by the candidate
Francine Busby understands the need to protect our ocean, air, water, park, forests and beaches. The current leadership in Congress is leading us in the wrong direction by allowing oil drilling off the coast of California, loosening clean air and water protections, threatening our parks and preserves and commercially logging our National Forests instead of investing in fire prevention and thinning around our communities. In Congress, Francine would be committed to changing the course.
PRESERVE OUR CLEAN AIR AND WATER

For many years Congressional Republicans have been on an all-out assault against our clean air and water protections + for the first time in 30 years, we are going backward, not forward on protecting our environment. Francine would change the course by fighting for:

  • Tough air and water standards including restoring tough arsenic rules,
  • Limiting mercury in our water,
  • Restoring the ban on offshore drilling
  • Working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • Enacting tough CAFE emission standards on automobiles ensuring the rest of the country catches up with California's progress on combating air pollution.
  • Recognize that San Diego can lead the way towards creating new energy efficient technology fighting pollution, reducing dependence on foreign oil and creating economic growth go hand-in-hand

PROTECT OUR PARKS AND PRESERVES

  • Oppose regulations that allow more road building in National Forests
  • Oppose drilling for oil in Arctic Wildlife Refuge
  • Protect areas at home like the San Elijo Lagoon, Torrey Pines State Park and other open spaces
  • Increase the number of wilderness areas and other protected zones

FOCUS ON FIRE PREVENTION - NOT COMMERCIAL LOGGING

  • Support real world solutions that focus on thinning brush and trees in zones surrounding communities - not commercial logging of our National Forests.
  • Oppose the billions of dollars that go to subsidize profitable lumber companies who use the money to log some of the most endangered forests in the country.
