Honoring our Veterans

By Francine P Busby

Candidate for United States Representative; District 50

This information is provided by the candidate
Keeping America's promise to our nation's veterans means so much more than speeches on Memorial Day. It means fighting every day to fulfill promises on healthcare, benefits and recognition. Francine is fully committed to taking a leadership role in fully funding the VA, concurrent receipt, a 21st Century GI Bill and other proposals. It is un-American for our nation to allow our heroes in uniform to be left behind during any part of the legislative process.
ENSURE FIRST-RATE MEDICAL CARE Our current Veterans Administration is underfunded and unequipped to deal with the new influx of veterans from the War in Iraq. A consortium of veterans groups has recommended funding the VA at $35 billion from the current $30 billion. This adjustment is necessary to make sure that veterans are not being denied the medical care they have been promised. It is unpatriotic and unfair to turn away our nation's heroes from the health care they were promised and I will work to implement the recommendations for the level of funding supported by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans.

GUARANTEE PROMISED BENEFITS IN FULL The only rule in our nation's treatment of veterans should be that they receive all of the benefits they were promised. Francine will work to restore concurrent receipt of full disability and pension benefits because it is the right thing to do. Additionally, she will work for passage of a 21st Century GI Bill that guarantees funding the full tuition costs for those veterans that fought for our nation. When we spend $125 billion a year on subsidies for profitable corporations but do not fulfill our promised veterans benefits, you know the nation is on the wrong course.

FULLY SUPPORT ACTIVE DUTY SOLDIERS Those soldiers serving our nation in Iraq and Afghanistan deserve our full support. Francine will fight to make sure that our military receives the absolute best equipment and training available - not the equipment provided by a contractor with political connections to Capitol Hill. Specifically, Francine will fight to continue TRICARE health coverage for the National Guard and Reserve and will work for pay raises for our military to achieve parity with equivalent private sector jobs. It is absolutely unacceptable that our men and women in uniform are forced into public assistance because our government will not provide them with the resources they need to live.
