Currently President/CEO of the San Diego North Chamber of Commerce serving 1,100 members representing 135,000 employees in 13 suburban communities. Former President/CEO of Rancho Bernardo Chamber of Commerce, and Executive Director of Lake Havasu Area Chamber of Commerce. Prior to chamber work, Mr. Powers owned and operated an All Suites Inn and investment properties in Lake Havasu City, Arizona (Home of the London Bridge). Concurrently he was President of The Funders and Associates of Lake Havasu City, Arizona a consulting firm specializing in non-profit fund raising and health care marketing that started in San Diego in 1985. His professional assignments and relationships included the Lake Havasu Unified School District #1, United Way of San Diego County, the Arthritis Foundation, San Diego State University Athletic Department,10 ambulance companies where he positioned and sold seven, the San Diego Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Youth for Understanding in Washington D.C., and ten years with the Boy Scouts of America.
His volunteer leadership and training activities have included the United Way of Lake Havasu City, Grace Episcopal Church in Lake Havasu, San Diego Society of Association Executives, Holiday Bowl Committee, National and Local Chair of the Combined Federal Campaign, Optimist, Rotary, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America. His bachelor's degree was awarded by Colorado State University. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Rancho Bernardo and on the Supervisory Committee of the North County Credit Union. He currently serves on the Advisory Board of the 1st Pacific Bank of California and recently was appointed to fill a vacant seat on the Palomar Pomerado Health District Board of Trustees servicing the largest health district in California covering 800 square miles. He has served as a Class Advisor for the U. S. Chamber Institute in Colorado Springs and is on U. S. Chamber West Institute Board of Regents that held their first West Institute at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles this summer. He currently was a first year Class Advisor helping mentor 28 chamber and association professionals. Mr. Powers and his wife Sharon have four grown daughters and seven grandchildren. They enjoy traveling in their motor home throughout the United States. |
