I believe in greater accountability not new taxes, avoiding loyalty to special interests, decisions made with input from all Encinitas parents and taxpayers. I will bring the perspective of a deeply involved parent, with fresh ideas to improve our school system, with a decision-making process that places kids first. Elementary schools must develop learning and communication skills so our children can become productive members of our society and economy.

I will bring a business perspective that brings organizational efficiency and effectiveness to our school system. My fresh outlook on the school system differs from the same complacent approach that some board members have taken over the last decade (same board, same ideas).

My education and ability to "listen" to parents and taxpayers, provides me with a share vision and common goal to make the EUSD the best in the state. My son (age 5) is a district student; I am endorsed by many community leaders and parents; I will use my education (1984 BA Political Science, USD) and resources to ensure Encinitas public schools offer the best curriculum, taught by the best teachers and the best recognized teaching methods..

2. What new facilities and/or programs are needed, if any and how would you suggest paying for them?

I would prioritize the current budget to reflect the current needs and Mission of the district. Eliminate service duplication and explore cooperative agreements and resource sharing with other school districts. I'm a taxpayer who supports public schools, but tax dollars should be spent in the classroom, not on unnecessary bureaucrats and, excessive administrative costs. I will work to ensure every child has a certified and motivated teacher, current textbooks and a clean, safe school.

3. Define achievement gap and how do you proposed to close it?

I support a back-to-basics curriculum utilizing a challenging progressive learning system that infuses technology and prepares our children for the future. We must continue to raise all grades, not just low grades.

4. Do you support dual language immersion programs (such as the one at Capri) Explain your answer?

I support ENGLISH IMMERSION programs as opposed to our dual language program. Secondary languages should be consider an elective. Elementary schools must develop learning and communication skills so our children can become productive members of our society and economy. Fluency in English for every student is my goal.

4. Please list the issues that are central to the board race?

A. Higher academic achievement. I support a back-to-basics curriculum utilizing a challenging progressive learning system that infuses technology and prepares our children for the future. B. Facility Improvements. Our facilities must be improved and expanded in order to provide a positive teaching environment. Our School Board Room must not be in better shape then our Class Rooms. C. Fiscal & Educational Accountability. Tax dollars should be spent in the classroom, not on unnecessary bureaucrats and, excessive administrative costs. I will work to ensure every child has a certified and motivated teacher. I will request performance audits in order to measure our accountable to you. D. New ideas. We should listen to each other and our constituents in order to encourage open dialogue to create the best learning environment for our kids.
