BIOGRAPHY

Supervisor candidate Alejandro Chavez was born in Merced, CA. He is the second of four children born to migrant parents who began their history in the Salinas Valley. The family later settled in the Central Valley. After graduating from high school, Alejandro pursued his education at the University of California in Santa Cruz. He put his education to good use by becoming a Director for Youth Programs. This experience set the tone for the following 13 years of public and community service. Alejandro is an advocate of prevention programs and sports and recreation. He sustains that healthy communities begin with healthy families.
After seven years of community service and volunteerism in organizations which focus ranged from affordable housing to small business development, Alejandro joined public service in 1994 as commissioner of various governmental bodies. His broad range of experiences has provided him with an understanding that good government limits bureaucracy and encourages partnerships between government and private entities.

Alejandro is married to Erica Padilla-Chavez and they are parents of two children. Like many parents, he enjoys watching his children play sports and is involved with his local parish and local YMCA. They live in Soledad, CA.
