Full Biography for Steven J. "Steve" Steinberg

|
I have been a resident of Humboldt County since 1998 when I was hired as an Assistant Professor at Humboldt State University. In 2000 I met my wife, also on the faculty at HSU and in 2003 we were married and began our family here in Arcata. Although we were not born and raised here, we both feel a strong connection to Humboldt because this is where our family was established and where we intend to raise our son. I am a faculty member in the department of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences at HSU with emphasis on Geographic Information Systems and associated mapping and spatial analysis technologies. I have been involved with children and children's programs for over 17 years as a member of the Boy Scouts and was an Eagle Scout as a child. From 2002-2004 I chaired the District Eagle Board of review which is responsible for evaluation of Scouts seeking the highest award in Scouting. I also served as an Assistant Scoutmaster to the National Jamborees (1997) and as a voluneteer with the US Forest Service Exhibit at the 2001 Jamboree. I was a member of the Board of Directors of the Discovery Museum from 1999-2001 and 2003-2004 and assisted in establishing the current location in Old Town, Eureka. I believe that education is important at all levels, both in the formal classroom as well as through extracurricular activities such as those I've been involved with in the past. |
