Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Arcata School District; 4 Year Term

Our contry was founded on the concept of government by the people, for the people. Being involved in our political process at all levels is essential, and being involved in my local community is something I can and believe I must do to ensure it remains a desireable place for my family.

I decided to run in this election for a few, very simple reasons:

Several days before the filing deadline an article in the newspaper stated no candidates had filed for this position and that concerned me greatly. It is everyone's responsibility to do what they can to ensure our political process functions as was intended. I felt it was my responsibility to run as a member of this community, as a household in this district and as the parent of a child who will begin in the Arcata schools during the period of the term of office.

I beleive in the public school system as an important and critical component of our community. As a product of the public education system from elementary school all the way through University degrees I beleive students can and should have the opportunity to obtain a high quality education in the public system and that it is the responsibility of our community at all levels to ensure that this happens.

Without the highest quality education we endanger the future of our communities and of out country, and as someone who obviously values education, I believe it is essential that we provide the best start possible so that every child who begins their education in the Arcata school district will be well prepared to succeed in high school and college.
