Increased Leisure and Recreational Opportunities

By Bob J. Marshall

Candidate for Council Member; City of Newark

This information is provided by the candidate
We need new open space, parks, and leisure services initiatives.
We have some of the finest recreational amenities in the Bay Area,, but we should have much more. We need a new Senior Center and a Performing Arts Center. We need an expansion of the Silliman Aquatic Center. We need more open space. Much of the open space annotated in Newark's General Plan is SCHOOL FIELDS!!! What happens if the School District decides to sell some of this property? Provisions must be made in Newark's General Plan Update to deal with this eventuality, and to meet the needs of future generations. As a City Council Member, I will work to find new ways to fund these projects, and will spearhead a movement to create joint projects with other agencies such as the School District.
