Traffic

By Bob J. Marshall

Candidate for Council Member; City of Newark

This information is provided by the candidate
Traffic is a regional problem
Newark is cursed to some degree with one of the finest locations in the Bay Area. We are totally surrounded by Fremont, and we are smack dab in the middle of Silicon Valley. Being totally surrounded by Fremont has caused us to have about 10.000 homes to the north of us, and 20,000 jobs to the south of us. At 8:00 on any given morning, we have all of those people living in those homes to the north of us, driving to all those jobs to the south of us, all on our poor little surface streets (because there is only one freeway on this side of the Bay). Traffic is a regional problem. As a City Council Member, I will work to continue the partnerships Newark has formed with surrounding communities through the Metropolitan Transportation Commission for solutions to these problems. The challenges of the future will be to work for the completion of the Mission Blvd/238 extension; the extension of the Dumbarton Freeway; the completion of the Dumbarton Light Rail project (complete with a commuter rail station in Old Town), and to insure that we have adequate local traffic controls throughout our community.
