What I feel are the fundamental roles that a trustee should assume in governing a junior college.
Trustees of Santa Rosa Junior College are community representatives elected by the public to work as a unit to set policy, assure the fiscal health and stability of the college, monitor institutional performance, and assure a quality educational experience, to name a few responsibilities. The most important Board responsibility is to make good policy that provides guidance for college staff to follow. The Board has a fiduciary responsibility to the community to watch over and safeguard the financial stability of the District. The Board has a proven track record of making sound policy that has provided strong financial support to the District. The Board must also monitor the community's needs in order to provide the variety of training and education that the community wants and requires. The Board must look to the future and plan for the growth of our community. This diverse and growing area creates many challenges and opportunities and SRJC must be ready to serve.
