I am a native San Franciscan and the proud product of our neighborhood schools, graduating from George Washington High School. I received my teaching credential and Master of Arts in Political Science from San Francisco State University. I have been an educator for over 25 years--first for seven years as a classroom teacher in the SFUSD and for 20 years in the non-profit business world. I have served in a number of volunteer leadership capacities. I served 10 years as a Trustee handling a substantial endowment, and two years as the Treasurer of a local synagogue--each year producing a balanced budget and a second year surplus. And I renegotiated a high-interest promissory note to more favorable terms, again saving substantial interest costs. I decided to run for the school board because I am tired of observing a fractious school board putting ideology before education--often fighting for political advantage and obstructing such stellar reforms as the Dream Schools. The Superintendent is on the right track, and I believe she needs a solid majority to accomplish her goals. |
