- It takes a neighborhood to educate a child. Neighborhood schools must be the cornerstone of a school system that includes magnet schools, charter schools, alternative schools, and vocational schools for the 21st century dedicated to those students who are headed directly to the business world or the trades.
If a child attends a school outside his or her neighborhood, it must be the parent's choice, not a central office directive.
- I believe the School Board should focus on the prize: providing quality education to all of our children, so that they can be full participants in civil society and informed citizens.
- We must adopt a management style and practice that will make our schools work. A burning focus on student achievement, with everyone accountable for student performance, and every principal an autonomous entrepreneur responsible for the success of his or her school.
- We must have complete accountability for every dollar spent in the SFUSD--a dollar's education for a dollar spent.
