My entire life has been focused on creating a better world/environment for children and youth. From my farm childhood, I was the first grandchild to attend college. My undergraduate degree was in education, and my first professional work experience involved serving as the Educational Coordinator for Iowa Children's & Family Services. During that time, I also volunteered my time as a telephone counselor for the local Crisis Line/Youth Line. Then I worked one year for the Iowa Runaway Services before traveling to Sacramento to attend McGeorge School of Law in 1980. Since graduating from McGeorge in 1983, I have practiced family law, both in private practice and in government. In 1997 I completed Certification as a Family Law Specialist. Also, I have completed more than 40 hours of training as an Attorney-Mediator. Between 1990 and 1997 I served the Sacramento County Courts as a Judge Pro Tem in Family Court, Juvenile Court and Small Claims Court.
My family moved to Galt in 1985. For 7 years I served in various capacities, including President of the Fairsite Elementary PTA (1990-7). During that time, I also served on the Elementary District Budget & Curriculum Advisory Committees. I volunteered in intramural sports. While my son was a student at Galt High, I participated in the GHS Booster Club (3 years), GHS Quarterback Club (4 years) as president (1 year), and the Band Boosters (1 year).
