|
Diane Lenning is a product of California Public Schools and Universities, as are her children and grandchildren. A third generation Huntington Beach family, Diane has seen the educational programs of this district continue in the high caliber and highly regarded reputation of many years. Over the years of traveling the country and other parts of the world, the realization of the high academic standards of her education in this district have highlighted the value and worth of the opportunities afforded in our local districts. The highly regarded education she has received here has supported her rise on the wings of personal ability and achievement gained through the local education system. The academic discipline and thoroughness of curriculum have raised her heights to national recognition in speaking, writing, and lobbying. After Orange Coast College, she continued at Cal-State University in San Luis Obispo, graduating in Social Sciences, History, and Music achieving Dean's List status. From there, a Master's Degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in History were acquired from Cal-State University at Long Beach, as well as a Traffic & Safety Credential. Various other credentials were earned at Cal-State University at Fullerton in Resource and Administration. Further coursework includes the CLAD credential for English Language Learners. Diane is an advocate for English immersion, believing the best environment for language acquisition is to listen, speak, write, and read in the language one is learning. Mother of two adult children and five grandchildren, Diane highly values education, empowering each individual to one's pursuits of life, liberty, and happiness. Earlier years include community participation as an AYSO girls soccer coach, high school girls soccer coach, Cypress Youth Community Orchestra, private violin and piano instruction, volunteer social services in Long Beach, Counselor to young men in the California Youth Authority, Norwalk, CA, Religious services in CYA, and Teacher in CYA, Whittier, CA. Early years in Huntington Beach included working for Noble Waite at his drug store on Main Street. Those were fun years; perhaps when my interest in politics was stimulated. Noble was such a social person. Everyone wanted to visit and talk with Noble. I remember quite a few politicians and movie personalities walking in and out the doors of his business when I worked at the soda fountain serving breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Many local notables such as George Farqhuar, Ted Bartlett, Tony Tovatt, and Mr. DiFabio were among the many friendships I made over the years. I recall with fondness the many lifetime friends of elementary school years, and the many wonderful teachers who made learning so much fun for me in Huntington Beach. Mrs. LeBard was my favorite English teacher. I still remember when we read the poem, "Evangeline," in her eighth grade class. She made stories come alive for me, and gave me the lifetime gift of enjoyment of reading. Married for 37 years to Jerry, she spends as much time as possible with family. |
