Smart Voter Full Biography for Robert KLIEWER

Candidate for
Member, City Council; City of Huntington Beach

This information is provided by the candidate

Robert Kliewer

I am 43, married with one daughter. My wife Kathy, my daughter Macy (she will be two in Dec.) and I are expecting our second child to arrive this November. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling with my family, golfing, hunting, and fishing.

I attended Rio Hondo Community College and studied in their Industrial arts, CNC programming, Metallurgical, Business and other programs.

I am a member of the California Rifle and Pistol Association, the National Rifle Association and the Libertarian Party. I support the Foundation for Economic Education the Cato Institute and other organizations that promote the ideals of the founding fathers and loyalty to the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

My experience is as a profitable business owner for twenty years. I sell and service knives for steel processors. I provide same day service to my customers. I know how to make a profit and keep the books balanced.

I believe the City council exists to purchase and provide essential services for the citizens of a community. Such as, fire and police protection, water, sewer and trash disposal, city streets. Entertainment is not an essential service.

Revenues must be reserved for the purchase and maintenance of essential services first. I will not support the taking of property owned by low sales tax generating businesses, for the purpose of selling it too a high sales tax generating business in a hunt for revenues. I will not support the raising of taxes, or fees to pay for non essential services of any sort.

My motivation for seeking this position is a deep concern for the fiscal health of our City. I believe the current City council over legislates. The last solution to a problem should be a government solution.

I believe the best and most cost effective way to address society's problems is through private non-profit organizations and charities. The government rarely comes up with satisfactory solutions and is never cost effective.

I believe it is wrong to use the coercive power of the government to accomplish political or social goals. "A government governs best that governs least"

John F. Kennedy said "it is a paradoxical truth that tax rates are too high and tax revenues are too low--and the soundest way to raise revenues in the long run is to cut taxes!" I support that view. If you agree, please cast your vote for Robert Kliewer # 9 on the ballot. Thanks for your time.
