I began volunteering in the Standard School District when my oldest child went to kindergarten. Now twenty years later I am still serving the school district. I was active in the Highland PTA for ten years, serving as President for three years. I organized many events for PTA including the Mother/Daughter, Father/Son Banquets, Reading Night, and the Why I Love Highland Essay Contest. I also served on the District Curriculum Advisory Panel and the Standard Educational Foundation Board.
I served at a County level for the 7th District PTA for three years. When Standards for education were first being talked about and looked at, I served on the Kern County Academic Standards Advisory. This gave me the opportunity to view how the Standards were put into place. I was able to address the State Board of Education and the Standards Committee on concerns our community had about the implementation of the Standards.I believe that quality education for every student is a must, but we must address individual needs.
I value the ability of parents to make an impact on their child's education. I welcome team work between parents, teachers, and administration. I feel community involvment makes for a better education.
