  • Occupation: Parent/Education Researcher
  • Parent: My wife and I have four children; two in BCSD schools (Chavez and Compton) two in preschool. I will be a parent in the District for some time.
  • Educated: Graduate of UCLA and UC Santa Barbara, my hard working parents taught me value of a good education.
  • Involved In My Children's School: Booster Club, School Site Council, Chess, Track
  • Experienced: Chaired 5 years District Advisory Committee (DAC) on Title 1- I will come prepared for next level of responsibility on the Board of Educa
  • Knowledgeable: I understand issues and data related to education - STAR, API, AYP, and No Child Left Behind.
  • Truly Independent: Measure me on what I have been doing, I am not asking more of anyone than I have not already been doing myself.

Top Priorities if Elected
  • Increase parental involvement at all levels. Parents are the first teachers; give them the tools to do better at home. We are all in this together.
  • Plan for the future - Growth in the Northeast and South Bakersfield will require new schools.
  • Fiscal stability. The finances of BCSD will not be undermined under my watch. We need to use the money we do have in a wise and efficient manner.

Position Papers
I support public schools, I support communication, I support teachers
California's new and rigorous standards require more from our students and teachers. The public has every right to expect the same high standards from BCSD board members.
Parent Involvement
I am a strong proponent of parental involvement, I promise to support the continuation of these programs and expansion of parents as advisors in their children's education. I have and continue to be involved with a number of these activities. I recommend the all. Some of these advisory groups include:
