Both my wife and I are natives of Oakland and have lived in Alameda County our entire lives. We moved from Oakland to Dublin in 1976. We have two children; both are graduates of Dublin High. We have family living in both Dublin and in San Ramon. We both think the valley is a great place to live and we doubt very much that we would ever move elsewhere.

We have been involved in the community almost from the day we moved here. As then young parents back in '76 we naturally got our start in the school district. Since then we have been active in a variety of community affairs. While Beth has served on both the Dublin School District Board and the Dublin City Council, I have been active in environmental interests. I am a member of the League to Save Lake Tahoe, and of the Environmental and Water Resource Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers. I am also a member in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers.

We've been mid-school and high school band boosters and chaperones. We have been involved in sister city activities, the chamber of commerce, service organizations, and Hope Hospice fund raising.

Professionally, I have over 30 years of engineering experience including over 15 years in various leadership positions. During those years I have made countless decisions that have affected both personnel and programs. As a functional manager I have been responsible for a department of nearly 100 engineers. I have been involved in personnel and supervisor selection, merit raises, promotions, and program assignments.

As a program leader I have been responsible for proposals, budgets and schedules. I have managed program budgets worth up to $11 million. I have made program decisions affecting priorities, schedules, quality and cost.

Since DSRSD will be losing its only professional engineer on the board I would like to try to fill his shoes. While I believe the board should be diversified, I also believe the board needs at least one member who fully understands the technical issues facing the district. I believe the board needs at least one member who asks the hard technical questions. DSRSD is largely a technical district and I believe that with my strong technical background I can make valuable contributions to the board.
