Udated Antioch Urban Waterfront Restoration PlanBy Steven Kirk "Steve" BallengerCandidate for Member, City Council; City of Antioch | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Original plan dated February of 1991. Has great plans that should have been implemented long ago.1991 was a long time ago. In 2002 a local developer wanted to use his own time, energy and money to update the plan. If the new plan was rejected he asked for the return of money spent but was rebuffed by the city council. I feel strongly that if we had 1.25 million dollars to give to one of the largest mall owners in the U.S., sales tax rebate to Macy's and over 1 million dollars for a ball park in another city we could have approved a local developers request for updating the waterfront plan. Here it is 2004 and the only progress made is an appointment of a sub-committee to work with the city staff to do a Request for Proposal to update the waterfront plan. This easily could have been done 2 years ago. I will see to it, when elected, that the updated waterfront plan is front and center with the city council. |
