Leadership - EconomyBy Tom PicoCandidate for Member of the State Assembly; District 20; Democratic Party | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Tom's overview on the Economy"I believe that by electing me as their representative, the people of my city have entrusted me with the preservation of their Quality of Life. This has always been the "big-picture" driving my decisions as an elected official. "California's ongoing financial crisis has undermined the people's confidence in their elected officials. I believe that until the health of the state budget is restored, important quality of life issues like the Environment, Critical Services, Education, and Business will not recieve the attention they deserve." As Mayor of Pleasanton, Tom has successfully managed the needs of intelligent growth while establishing and increasing city fiscal reserves. He is a firm believer in investing in infrastructure and maintenance as a means of minimizing catastrophic expenditures for equipment, sewers and roads. Creative, "outside the box" solutions such as the consolidation of the Livermore and Pleasanton Fire Departments, have saved the taxpayers millions of dollars while enhancing critical services. Over the past decade, Tom's strategies have paid off handsomely for Pleasanton. While other cities are struggling, Pleasanton enjoys an enviable fiscal position. As your elected Assemblyman, Tom Pico will use his extensive public leadership experience and hands-on budgetary and fiscal expertise to tackle the nation's most dire financial crisis. |
