Tom's overview on the EnvironmentFor Tom Pico, the "big picture" driving his decisions has always been Quality of Life for the people who elected him. His passion for enhancing and preserving that quality of life is evidenced by the 11 open-space related ballot measures Tom has written, sponsored, or actively campaigned for over the past 10 years. Tom's long-standing record as a champion of open space preserves, wildlife refuges and regional water quality has earned him repeated endorsements from environmental protection groups including the Sierra Club and the California League of Conservation Voters. The Greenbelt Alliance awarded him the prestigious Greenbelt Star. At a regional level, Tom served recently as Chair of the Alameda County Congestion Management Agency. In that capacity, he focused on defining traffic problems, prioritizing projects and pushing for more support from State agencies to address the Bay Area's traffic needs. Tom also proposed a gasoline use tax to create jobs locally, minimize congestion in some of the highest use corridors and improve the movement of goods and raw materials through the region. |
