A School Board Represents the Whole Community's Concern for Education Public schools must be the best they can be because they represent the educational opportunity for most of our kids. We all share responsibility for education, whether we are young or old, parents, or people without children. We all pay taxes to the schools and should be interested in the success and safety of our community's children in the public schools. I believe that free public education is not only essential to our economy, but the bedrock of our democracy. Education is essential to our participation as citizens. Of the three candidates running in this election, I clearly have the most hands-on experience in the schools. I am the only candidate who regularly attends school board meetings. I have always felt that public money should be used for public education. I do not support any parental choice that would diminish funding for our public schools. I oppose any voucher system. Our schools should be free from bias and provide equal opportunity. As a mother of two daughters, I am particularly concerned with equal opportunity for girls. Providing basic needs in the classroom should be our highest priority and this is the very last place we should consider cost cutting. |
