There is no single set of criteria that qualifies someone
for public office but a combination of people and leadership
skills plus volunteerism would be a good start. If so then
Don Reeves is certainly in that category as a candidate for
the Rancho Palos Verdes City Council. From president of high
school and engineering college senior classes to senior
management positions at TRW (now Northrup Grumman) to
positions on several community Boards he has a history of
creative leadership.
He is a 27 year resident of RPV with his wife, Barbara, and
two grown daughters who graduated from Miraleste High School
and UCLA/UCSD. He has served on the Miraleste Recreation &
Park District Board in several capacities including Chairman
during which time he won a Grant from the DOF which allowed
the planting of 60 trees. Perhaps most notable is his
involvement with the California Academy of Mathematics and
Science (CAMS) Mentor Support Association as past president
during which time he won a state Grant of $225,000 for the
program. He has also served on the Boards of the Community
Association of the Peninsula (CAP) and the Engineering
Alumni Society of the University of Michigan.
A self described rocket engineer rather than rocket
scientist he managed both programs and organizations with
over 300 people and budget responsibilities in excess of
$30M per year
