This information is provided by the candidate
As a candidate he has taken the unusual step of preparing a
Platform addressing 10 issues facing RPV. The most important
are "people oriented" including personal safety, the aging
infrastructure and the needs of our youth and seniors.
Don's engineering and management background is unique among
the candidates and it would be an asset in addressing these
issues. Although there are varying opinions as to the extent
and timing of RPV's storm drain/sewer problems the magnitude
may be as high as $30M spread over 10 years. How to
prioritize and deal with individual problem areas will
require insight and practical decision making skills.
Ironically the $3M/year investment is about the same as
should be occurring from Trump National Golf Club and Long
Point if we had been more accommodating with the developers.
There is also a significant issue of budget priorities in
which the Sheriff's budget, road repairs/maintenance, youth
athletic facilities, etc have been shortchanged for spending
on open space consultants and expensive information
technology. If the deal to buy 700+ acres of land from
developers for $27M falls apart as it now appears that it
will, RPV will have been stuck with hundreds of thousands of
dollars in costs-but will still exceed the federal guideline
for natural space per capita and still not meet the standard
for active space per capita.
