Moorpark Food Pantry

By Bernardo M. Perez

Candidate for Council Member; City of Moorpark

This information is provided by the candidate
Establish a permanent facility for the Food Pantry
About 3-1/2 years ago, fire destroyed The Moorpark Food Pantry building. The Food Pantry has had to move twice and currently occupies the former school bus barn on Flory Avenue. This building was meant to house buses not people; it is intolerably hot in the summer and cold and drafty in the winter. The added urgency is that this temporary facility will soon be lost to future development in early 2003.

As a solution to finding a permanent home for The Moorpark Food Pantry, I support the efforts of a local grassroots organization, The Moorpark Community Services Facility and Moorpark Food Pantry Committee (the "Committee"). This committee has been working to identify a permanent home for The Food Pantry and other community service organizations.

I will work to provide city financial and land inventory resources to develop this 'under one roof' facility and place the Moorpark Food Pantry in a safe, clean, conveiently located and permanent home.
