Community Swimming Pool

By Bernardo M. Perez

Candidate for Council Member; City of Moorpark

This information is provided by the candidate
Work in partnership with the Moorpark School District to build this community swimming pool in Arroy Vista Park.
When the City Council adopted the goal of constructing a community swimming pool, it did so unilaterally and without qualification. Any reasonable contribution from potential partners should be viewed as 'frosting on the cake' and accepted graciously by the city.

In my view, the School District offered a very reasonable contribution to this community project. It offered financial and in-kind contributions to construct the pool with a total value of approximately $1.4 million. Additionally, it offered to increase its maintenance assistance when possible.

I understand that city officials viewed this level of participation as inadequate. Subsequently, discussions broke down and the project is not moving forward at this time. This is another unfortunate example of the two agencies inability to work together.

This is unacceptable. After all, who is on the School Board but our own friends and neighbors? I will work cooperatively and respectfully with the School Board to complete this important community swimming pool.
