118 Bypass Route

By Bernardo M. Perez

Candidate for Council Member; City of Moorpark

This information is provided by the candidate
Moorpark must take the lead role on this solution to removing the trucks from the middle of our community.
The only practical and achievable solution to the truck traffic in town is the 118 Bypass Roadway. We must take the lead on this most important local issue if we ever expect to get the trucks out of the middle of town.

What has the current city council done? It abandoned its lead role on the 118 Alternative Route Study! Further, it invited the Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC) to accept this role. How can we expect VCTC to produce results for us if we don't accept local ownership and responsibility to solve this important local issue?

We must work with VCTC and CalTrans to solve this problem. We must work also with the County to reconvene the 118 Safety Committee to enhance safety measures on the current roadway such as increased patrol and inspection services.

We should not throw away money on lobbyists thinking we can ban trucks from a state highway. Rather, we must work together to achieve the solution: the 118 Bypass Roadway
