The choice is clear, do we want uncontrolled growth and the problems that come with it, or do we want to continue our RESPONSIBLE growth policies that have been put in place in the last four years?

Two of the candidates for city council advocate growth. Both of these candidates are on the board of the Chamber of Commerce. These candidates claim they want to bring independence to the council, yet if they are elected, a majority of council will be Chamber of Commerce members. Is this independence? Do you think they will represent your interests, or the interests of business and developers?

If we allow developers to control the council, we will face the same problems Yucaipa, Banning and Beaumont now face. It takes 45 minutes to go from one end of Yucaipa Boulevard to the other at certain times of the day. Yucaipa keeps growing and growing without protecting the interests of the residents who are already living here. Banning has built so many housing projects, many of their residents were without water for days at a time this past summer. Beaumont is building houses so close together you can borrow a cup of sugar from your neighbor by just leaning out your window. These kinds of developments bring many problems including overcrowded schools, traffic congestion, higher crime, and a host of environmental problems such as draining our valuable water resources. The current residents are forced to pay for the problems these developments create.

Is this what we want for Calimesa? I don't think so. I will continue to represent your interests and fight for your rights. Another candidate accepted donations from developers and other outside interests in his previous attempt to get elected. These donations included a large sum of money from Bret Grunland, a person who has received most of his money from large developers such as Hansburger and Majestic Reality. He will represent these developer's interests over the your needs and desires. I have never accepted donations from developers or anyone else who doesn't call Calimesa home.

Do we want Calimesa to look like Beaumont or have the traffic problems that are now choking Yucaipa or the water problems that Banning is still facing? If you are as concerned about these scenarios as I am, vote for JON WINNINGHAM on November 5. Stand up to the developers and say NOT IN MY TOWN.
