Smart Voter Full Biography for Julia Brownley

Candidate for
Member, Board of Education; Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate

Title of Office: Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education Name: Julia Brownley Age: 49 Occupation: Parent/School Board Member

My husband and I have lived in Santa Monica for 19 years. Our children were born in Santa Monica and attend our local public schools.

I have a B.A. in Political Science and a M.B.A. from American University in Washington, D.C. After many years in private industry, I chose to become a full-time parent.

I currently serve on the School Board as President. I am running for re-election because I believe all children can and should achieve at extraordinarily high levels. I will continue to be committed to the most ambitious course of improvement possible for our district to ensure every student's success.

I am deeply committed to making our school district a model school district in the State of California and even the country. Our reputation will be one of closing the achievement gap, of beating the educational odds in California where privilege and poverty stand side by side, and of our belief that all children can and will achieve at extraordinarily high levels.

I am committed to educational excellence and I will continue to work hard for all students, parents and the communities of Santa Monica and Malibu.
