By Estela I. Cranston

Teachers used to be known for comprehensive teaching, now they are resposible for students comprehensive learning
Everything the governing board does--its fundamental effectiveness is in providing a quality education program for the District -- hinges on the development of a common vision. I have a clear vision of how to adopt a budget, curriculum and policy in order for the Board to hold the system accountable.

Setting direction for the District means identifying core beliefs and values; district priorities, specific strategic goals and success indicators. Educating a student to complete a specific task is highly important for their success. Teachers can teach and some of the students may get it, and some may not; that is no longer the case, teaching the task effectively will assure that all students understand what is being taught. This will successfully launch them to the next task with a knowledgable background of what was previously learned. The way to acheive this is by maintaing the following:

  • Continue class size reduction for more individual teaching time per student. (max. 20 students per class).

  • Provide additional services for English Language Learners, special needs students and diabled students not able to be in the mainstream. This can be achieved by obtaining special grants and funding.

  • Provide additional help in the classroom by way of classroom aides.

  • Provide in-service training to certificated staff for greater knowledge and implementation.

  • Follow up and monitor programs for success and effectiveness.

  • Offer mentor programs as necessary.

We cannot afford to have students who do not learn. All students are capable of learning if provided with the proper means to ensure success. With the standards of the new century raising higher it is imperative that we keep all students aligned to not only the state standards but the technology of the real world and whatever changes come to pass in our futures.
