Candidate Statement

By Jon Patton

Candidate for Member of the City Council; City of San Buenaventura

This information is provided by the candidate
This is my written candidate statement, as it appears on the sample ballot, that was submitted at the time of filing to run for the City Council on August 10, 2001. It indicates my position on several key issues, and could not be altered or changed through the course of campaigning. In other words, it could not be modified in an effort to "get votes" by virtue of changing positions.
Your choice for City Council is more crucial than ever. It will directly affect you and your family's life.

I have a clear vision of what I want for Ventura, and I beleive other resident's do as well. We don't need expensive consultants to tell us what we already know. Many people have told me that they are afraid Ventura has already reached a point of saturation, and want to maintain the quality of life we presently enjoy.

I am against unbridled development. I oppose the Hillside Development. I support reinvestment in already developed areas of the city, and the preservation and protection of our beaches and open spaces. I believe all significant development issues should go to public vote.

In my profession, I work closely with Ventura Police and the City Fire Department. I am adamant about responsible and sensible spending of our tax money, and in taking care of our basic needs such as Police and Fire, the Ventura Unified School District, and the condition of our streets - before spending on projects that don't benefit us on a day to day basis.

My integrity is of utmost importance and I will not compromise it.
