Canyon Growth Vs. Valley GrowthBy Jim GarfieldCandidate for Member of the City Council; City of Santa Paula | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I am in favor of growing our community into the canyons, not using the valley floor for residential growth. The General Plan for Santa Paula was a culmination of over 30 public hearings and much work by many people. The public had their say and voted to use Adams and Fagan Canyons as growth areas for a city that is virtually built out. I am a firm believer in this plan. Let's keep our valley floor for agribulture and the much needed space for industrial development. We need light industry to employ our underemployed and our unemployed. There is nothing like a paycheck to assist in having pride in yourself. The development in Adams Canyon gices us the chance to have golf courses and a resort along with varied housing from moderate to high=end to help with our tax base. An increase in bed tax will also allow us to pay our fire and police personell more money and get them closer to a county average. The growth will stay within our own slow growth ordinance and, I believe, will be a benefit to our community. |
