Candidate for
Board Member; Carlsbad Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate

Education has always been of great importance to me. I am the proud product of California's public schools, from kindergarten through college. When my daughter enrolled in kindergarten in Carlsbad and I began serving as a classroom volunteer I was thrilled to be able to give back to the system that had served me so well.

Since that time I have spent literally hundreds of hours in the classrooms and on the campuses of our Carlsbad schools. I have served on school site leadership boards, organized and worked at PTA fundraisers, served as chairperson of the Parent / Superintendent Advisory Council, and participated in the successful school bond effort in 1997.

These grassroots efforts combine with state and national efforts on behalf of our students. I have traveled to Sacramento and Washington, D.C. to meet with legislators, sharing with them the successes and challenges we face here in Carlsbad. I've encouraged their support on specific legislation that would give our students increased opportunities for learning.

My business experience also serves me well in the responsibilities of a school board trustee. With my husband I have owned a local company for 15 years and am responsible for the daily business office operation. I have a thorough understanding of fiscal policy and know the value of wisely managing resources and keeping close control on budgets.

These experiences have given me the qualifications to serve as a school board trustee, but the underlying motivation is my belief in our children. I believe that each of them deserves the best opportunities that we can offer them, and I will always keep that in mind as I make decisions for them.
