FAIRVIEW PARK

By Thomas L. "Tom" Sutro

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Costa Mesa

A very unique park that must be shared with many different specific interest groups.
Fairview Park is one of the most unique city parks in all of Orange County as it can support activities that other parks cannot. I believe that walkers, joggers and Cross Country teams, biking and roller blade enthusiasts, members of the Harbor Soaring Society and other model airplane devotees, that the Orange County Model Railroad, stunt kite flyers, horseback riders, students that want to learn more about native plants and animals, and the individual or family that wants to have a picnic and enjoy the open space should all have the opportunity to use Fairview Park.

While serving on the Fairview Park Advisory Committee, I proposed that the committee visit the park as a group so that we would have a better understanding how the decisions being made in the conference room affect the park and its users. You can look at Fairview Park Master Plan Map, but you must visit the park to really understand the size and special features it has to offer.

I feel we can provide one or two hard surface bike path that will add to the master plan of bikeways while giving the Cross Country teams and other joggers, the trails they need for general use and meets. But we must visit the park as a group and public meeting to determine exactly where the different paths should be.
