SMALL LOT SUBDIVISIONSBy Thomas L. "Tom" SutroCandidate for Member, City Council; City of Costa Mesa | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Development standards for small lot subdivisions will be an issue that must be dealt with in the next few months. I am concerned that if we downzone residential lots to allow only single-family detached homes that owner occupied housing in Costa Mesa will become unaffordable. I am in favor of lots that are less than the 6,000 square foot but offer a minimum of 400+/- square feet of private yard and additional open space. Traffic, density and compatibility with surrounding properties must be taken into consideration when new developments are reviewed. Currently, approximately 58% of the residences in Costa Mesa are occupied by renters. While many families that rent take great pride in the exterior of their homes, townhomes, condiminums or apartments, some do not. I would like to see more owner occupied residences in the city. |
