Jane Egly Biography

As a Laguna Beach Community Volunteer and Civic Activist, I have served on our Parks & Recreation Committee and participated in efforts to Save Laguna Canyon, Stop the Tollroad, Support the Greenbelt and obtain regional Open Space and Parklands. Professionally I have been a trial attorney. I am 57 years old and currently I work as a Professor of Law. Highlights of my bio are as follows:

- 2000 Professor of Law with my husband, Retired Judge Paul Egly, at LaVerne University College of Law where I serve as the Director of the Clinical Experience Program.

- 1990 Served as Orange County Public Defender and then began working with civil litigation firm and litigated cases for both plaintiffs and defendants.

- 1989-90 With our children graduated, Paul and I spent a wonderful and eye-opening year living in Barcelona, Spain. Ole!

- 1984 Delighted to moved to Laguna Beach, marry Paul Egly and make a home here; daughter Annie went through Laguna Beach public schools from Thurston to LBHS; active in many Laguna Beach civic activities.

- 1978 As a single Mom, I moved to Capistrano Beach, CA, and opened a private practice; developed a legal clinic at a Senior Citizen Center in San Clemente; served on the Boys & Girls Club of San Clemente.

- 1970s-80s Frequent Speaker on Family Law and Child Custody cases; was the first attorney in California to convince a judge that the child in family law matters needs representation by an attorney; represented many children and was able to persuade California state legislators to enact supporting laws for the protection of our children.

- 1973 Moved to Claremont, CA, practiced law with Weiner, Newman, Chrisman and Baldonado, focusing primarily on Subdivided Land Use issues and Family Law issues; served on California State Bar Committee, and on the board of Family Service Agency

- 1972 Wayne State Law School, Detroit, MI, graduated cum laude with a law degree

- 1969 & 1973 Son Paul and daughter Annie born

- 1965 Married

- 1964 University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History

- 1942 Born Margaret Jane Hill, the fifth family "Margaret Jane", raised in Silver Spring, MD and Chapel Hill, NC
