OJ and Clinton---Once Again the Guilty Walk

By Eddie Rose

Candidate for United States Representative; District 48

There are certain inescapble similarities in the two farcical, "trials of the century", the criminal trial of OJ Simpson and the impeachment trial of President Clinton.
While there are obvious significant differences, there are nevertheless certain inescapable similarities in the two farcical, so-called "trials of the century", namely the criminal trial of OJ Simpson for two brutal murders, and the impeachment trial of William Jefferson Clinton for perjury and obstruction of justice.

For both Simpson and Clinton are men of immense wealth, power, and ego. Both consider themselves above the law, and thus immune from conviction and punishment for their crimes. Both have access to a battery of slick and disingenuous lawyers who think nothing of perverting the law in order to protect their respective clients.

Both Simpson and Clinton are pathological liars, i.e., persons who can look you right in the eye and lie to you without even blinking. And judging from their highly publicized golf games, for both Simpson ("I never hit Nicole") and Clinton ("I never had sex with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky"), lying under oath obviously comes easier than playing golf!

Both Simpson and Clinton were acquitted by biased and sympathetic juries---Simpson for racial motives, Clinton for political motives---despite the overwhelming and incontrovertible evidence against them. Just as Marcia Clark, Chris Darden, and the Simpson prosecution team proved their case against the "Butcher of Brentwood" beyond a reasonable doubt, so too did Henry Hyde, Asa Hutchinson, and the House prosecutors prove their case against the "Pervert of Pennsylvania Avenue" beyond a reasonable doubt. And just as Simpson's lawyers played their inevitable "race card" to the hilt as we all knew they would, so too did Clinton's lawyers play their inevitable "political card" to the hilt, as we all knew they would.

That both trials ended in the manner they did is but further evidence of the moral decay of our nation. That a significant number of Americans still continue to accept at face value the incredulous denials from the likes of Simpson and Clinton is but further evidence of the ignorance and gullibility of the American people.

And so, once again, not surprisingly, the guilty have walked. If nothing else, these two trials have proven that there is indeed a dual system of justice in America---one for the rich and famous---and one for the rest of us!
