It is quite clear that the Republican Party of Orange County has ceased to represent the people, but rather has climbed in bed with big developers and other special interests. It is quite clear that the Republican Party of Orange County has ceased to represent the people, but rather has climbed in bed with big developers and other special interests. What was once the party of Abraham Lincoln and Bob Taft and Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan has, in fact, become the party of George Argryos and Donald Bren and Ross Johnson and Doy Henley. It will be recalled that, in the Reagan years, the Republican Party was successful because it stood for something. It meant what it said and it said what it meant. Unfortunately, the Republican Party has abandoned its principles and broken its contract with the American people. Today, the Republican Party, like the Democratic Party, has become a party of elitists. Big money determines who the candidates are and ultimately, who is elected to office. When the Republican Party of Orange County embraces a 20th Century Marie Antoinette (Assemblywoman Pat Bates) or names an elitist City Councilmember (Mimi Walters) "elected (sic) official of the year", even though she was never elected by the people, simply because of her large contributions to the Republican Party, it has become apparent that the Republican Party of Orange County is no longer deserving of support or respect. As a candidate for Congress, I will run on the following issues: (1) Implementing meaningful campaign reform, by placing appropriate limitations on campaign contributions, requiring full and timely disclosure, and strict enforcement of conflict-of-interest laws. (2) Withdrawing from the World Trade Organization (WTO), whose policies and objectives would endanger American soverignty, result in the loss of American jobs, and pose a serious threat to the environment and to the health and safety of our citizens. (3) Preserving the integrity of our borders, by preventing illegal aliens from gaining access and by refusing welfare benefits to those who have already entered our country illegally. (4) Stopping the proliferation of urban sprawl, by denying local governments the right to build airports, jails, landfills, toll roads, or other objectionable projects in communities without a 2/3 vote of the people. |
