SHARED VISION My shared vision for the city of Elk Grove is to ensure the safety and well being of all citizens. This will be accomplished through increased law enforcement services, embracing the Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) philosophy. The COPPS philosophy empowers neighborhoods and citizens to partnership with law enforcement and organizes neighborhoods to implement strategies to effectively reduce crime. Our community's population is projected to exceed 150,000 people within the next ten years. As a city Council Member, I will promote responsible growth and maintain a balance of industrial, business, residential and agricultural zoning within our city. I will continue to plan and develop ways to increase the flow of traffic on major roads and reduce speeding in our neighborhoods. I will work with state and local government to improve accessiblity of public transportation, including extending light rail services and more busses to Elk Grove/Laguna. Some of the many challenges facing our community include selecting a new city manager to lead a diverse and evolving community. With a new city council, there must exist a shared vision and commitment to make beneficent decisions in the interest of our community. We must create partnerships between schools, businesses, the religious community, community groups and law enforcement to enhance the quality of life. Our community will continue to experience significant change from external decisions made by the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. The responsibility of the Elk Grove City Council will be to create an environment that is self-sustaining. The viability of the City of Elk Grove has proven to be very strong with an anticipated $9 million dollar budget surplus after the first year of operation. This significant tax base will enhance opportunities to create a robust community for the citizens of Elk Grove/Laguna. |
